About Us:

The non-profit Company "To Epitonio" (an ancient music instrument used for tuning) was founded in 2019 to meet social and pedagogical needs and to promote art and culture to a wide European audience.
It is composed by children, adolescents and adults.The main entity of the organisation is the wind orchestra “Thessaloniki Youth Band” (T.Y.B.).
The Thessaloniki Youth Band Philharmonic Orchestra (T.Y.B.) is a large musical ensemble consisting of younger and older volunteer musicians. Their common trait is their love for music.
TYB consists mainly of musicians who, over the years, under the guidance of the maestro Nikolaos Chrysochoou, have formed various musical ensembles, which have performed at events and festivals both inland and abroad. Their performances have taken place among others in Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria, where they received praise for the quality of their musical interpretation.

Our Conductor:

Greek-born conductor Nikolaos Chrysochoou received his Master Degree in Conducting from American Band College of South Oregon University. During his stay in the USA he has participated as a wind and percussion performer in CONCERT BAND recordings of 8 CDs and 4 DVDs. In detail, he was a member of the South Oregon University Wind Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he recorded and performed in concerts directed by Johan de Meij (most well-known for his music for “Lord of the Rings” trilogy), and DVD with world-wide known trumpet soloist Allen Vizzutti. He also recorded with one of the top wooden wind ensemble of USA, the CAPITOL SAXOPHONE QUARTET. Also, he played with other 220 conductors for the production of a DVD, with soloists the renowned tuba soloists Sam Pilafian (Arizona State University) and Patrick Sheridan (Chandler). He participated in recordings with BOSTON BRASS and the world-known for their discography DALLAS BRASS and also famous flute soloist Jim Walker. Here are some of his teachers in wind band conducting at the Master’s department of AMERICAN BAND COLLEGE.
Since 2016 and for three consecutive years he was selected to conduct the Philharmonic Orhestra of BDB-Musikakademie in Staufen in conducting orchestra seminars, taught by the world top-class conductor Douglas Bostock. In 2018 he was interviewed in the world-wide distributed music magazine “Clarino Magazine” as the spokesperson of Philharmonic Orchestras in Greece. Furthermore, he holds a diploma in trumpet, diploma in wind orchestration, in fugue and he is a graduate of Byzantine music. He is the conductor of Thessaloniki Youth Band, the Ampelokipi Wind Band (since 2001), the historical Philharmonic Orchestra “Pandora” of Kozani (since 2016) and of polyphonic choir “Iatrikos Syllogos” of Thessaloniki. As a conductor, he has organized more than a dozen Philharmonic Orchestra Festivals and seminars with well-known soloists(Alexander Sergei Nakariakov, Vince di Martino) but also conductors (Denis Laile, Matthew Arau, Georgios Hatzinikos, Douglas Bostock, Thierry Abramovici). He has also participated with his wind bands in contests and festivals abroad, in Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania, Basel-Germany, Poland, Luxembourg, where he has received top marks and remarks for their performances. He is an active trumpet and music theory teacher in Music High Schools and conservatories in Thessaloniki city of Greece.

Our Band:

The Wind Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 2004 by maestro Nikolaos Chrysochoou, who is the conductor and artistic director of the band till this day. It was named TYB in 2019. TYB musicians have taken part in wind band festivals in Greece and abroad, under the musical guidance and support from the maestro. Festivals/Contests: Slovakia, Hungary, Rumania, Poland, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Basel, Germany. Collaborations with conductors: Thierry Abramovici, Denis Laile, Georgios Hatzinikos, Julian Gibbons, Matthew Arau, Douglas Bostock. Collaborations with soloists: Alexander Sergei Nakariakov, Gerasimos Ioannidis, Konstantinos Nikas, Vince di Martino.
