Greek-born conductor Nikolaos Chrysochoou received his Master Degree in Conducting from American Band College of South Oregon University.
During his stay in the USA he has participated as a wind and percussion performer in CONCERT BAND recordings of 8 CDs and 4 DVDs. In detail, he was a member of the South Oregon University Wind Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he recorded and performed in concerts directed by Johan de Meij (most well-known for his music for “Lord of the Rings” trilogy), and DVD with world-wide known trumpet soloist Allen Vizzutti. He also recorded with one of the top wooden wind ensemble of USA, the CAPITOL SAXOPHONE QUARTET. Also, he played with other 220 conductors for the production of a DVD, with soloists the renowned tuba soloists Sam Pilafian (Arizona State University) and Patrick Sheridan (Chandler). He participated in recordings with BOSTON BRASS and the world-known for their discography DALLAS BRASS and also famous flute soloist Jim Walker. Since 2016 and for three consecutive years he was selected to conduct the Philharmonic Orhestra of BDB-Musikakademie in Staufen in conducting orchestra seminars, taught by the world top-class conductor Douglas Bostock. In 2018 he was interviewed in the world-wide distributed music magazine “Clarino Magazine” as the spokesperson of Philharmonic Orchestras in Greece.
Furthermore, he holds a diploma in trumpet, diploma in wind orchestration, in fugue and he is a graduate of Byzantine music.
He is the conductor of Thessaloniki Youth Band, the Ampelokipi Wind Band (since 2001), the historical Philharmonic Orchestra “Pandora” of Kozani (since 2016) and of polyphonic choir “Iatrikos Syllogos” of Thessaloniki.
As a conductor, he has organized more than a dozen Philharmonic Orchestra Festivals and seminars with well-known soloists(Alexander Sergei Nakariakov, Vince di Martino) but also conductors (Denis Laile, Matthew Arau, Georgios Hatzinikos, Douglas Bostock, Thierry Abramovici). He has also participated with his wind bands in contests and festivals abroad, in Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania, Basel-Germany, Poland, Luxembourg, where he has received top marks and remarks for their performances.
He is an active trumpet and music theory teacher in Music High Schools and conservatories in Thessaloniki city of Greece.
